Unshaken: Dominican Republic's Close Call with 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake
A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit northeast of the Dominican Republic early Tuesday. It was centered about 60 miles north-northeast of Punta Cana with no reported damage or tsunami. The quake was felt in parts of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Early Tuesday, the Dominican Republic experienced a 5.9 magnitude earthquake. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage.
The US Geological Survey pinpointed the quake's location to about 60 miles northeast of Punta Cana at a depth of 29 miles.
Though widely felt, the tremor did not trigger a tsunami, providing relief to many residents in both the Dominican Republic and neighboring Puerto Rico.
