Puducherry's Water Supply Revolution: A Vision for the Future
Puducherry Lt Governor K Kailashnathan announced a major water supply project supported by the French Development Agency. It includes water tapping from major lakes, groundwater harnessing, and infrastructure upgrades. The initiative aims to enhance urban livability, improve connectivity, and achieve economic growth, education, and poverty alleviation in the Union Territory.

Puducherry's Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan unveiled plans for a transformative water supply project on Monday, backed by the French Development Agency. The Rs 534 crore project aims to bolster water availability by tapping into five major lakes and installing 40 tube wells near the Sankaraparani river.
Additionally, a proposal seeking Rs 4,750 crore has been submitted to the Centre for a comprehensive urban livability project. This includes constructing desalination plants, enhancing surface water sources, sewerage, drainage systems, and improving road connectivity with National Highways.
The initiative aligns with Puducherry's broader goals to boost economic growth, as demonstrated by a 34.36% increase in government revenue since 2020, and a focus on enhancing education and tourism sectors under the BEST Puducherry vision.
