Fitness Classes Empower Elderly Ugandan Women Against Rising Health Challenges

In Kivubuka, a picturesque village in eastern Uganda, elderly women are shaking up the fight against rising obesity and diabetes rates through lively fitness classes.
Clad in colorful floor-length dresses and wrap-around skirts, the women jog hand in hand, sharing laughter and playful jibes as they make their way across a local playing field. This initiative is part of a broader project expressly designed to combat noncommunicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.
Since its inception five years ago, the project has drawn in more than 1,000 participants, highlighting a community-wide commitment to healthier living.
