A dramatic rescue unfolded this week as a male wild elephant, trapped in a canal in Karnataka's Mandya district, was safely rescued. The Karnataka Forest Minister, Eshwar Khandre, confirmed the successful operation on Tuesday.
The elephant had fallen into the canal near Shivanasamudra while attempting to drink water and was stuck there for three difficult days without food. Responding promptly, the Forest Minister instructed the Chief Conservator of Forests to take immediate action to rescue the stranded animal.
Forest department officials utilized a crane to lift the elephant. After a veterinarian administered a sedative, the elephant was carefully lifted from the canal. Officials plan to administer a reversal dart to awaken the elephant before it is released back into the forest.
