The Delhi government has signed a key Memorandum of Understanding with the Inland Waterways Authority of India, marking a significant step in bolstering river cruise tourism between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. The move is seen as an effort to enhance the capital's tourism appeal.
Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, along with Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and Delhi's tourism officials, assessed the site, reviewing the construction plans for jetties and passenger facilities. This joint venture seeks to strengthen water transport and aid in the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River.
Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra pointed out that the service would not only provide a fresh identity to Delhi but also foster economic opportunities through job creation. The corridor will serve as a historic foundation for cruise tourism in the region, echoing the Centre's emphasis on reviving India's neglected inland waterways.
