The seasonal arrival of flamingos at Thane Creek marks a promising start to this year's migratory phase, according to senior bird researcher Mrugank Prabhu. The presence of 300 greater flamingos has been recorded, with early sightings at DPS Lake in Nerul indicating more arrivals are possible, he said.

Despite modest numbers at present, Range Forest Officer Prashant Bahadure anticipates larger flocks to follow, reviving hopes of a robust migratory season. This arrival comes slightly delayed compared to previous years, but officials remain optimistic about the birds' crucial role in sustaining Mumbai's vulnerable mudflats and creeks.

Environmental groups, including the NatConnect Foundation and Navi Mumbai Environmental Preservation Society, advocate for government action. They call for an urgent gazette notification to designate DPS lake a conservation reserve, a proposal already approved by the State Wildlife Board, as part of broader efforts to protect the 'pink guests' and their fragile habitats.
