A four-country boycott over Israel's inclusion in the Eurovision Song Contest might trim next year's financial plans in Vienna, yet ORF, Austria's host broadcaster, insists the quality of the show will stay intact. On Thursday, the European Broadcasting Union confirmed Israel's participation in the upcoming May event.
The withdrawal by Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Slovenia over the Gaza conflict marks one of Eurovision's most significant controversies. However, ORF chief Roland Weissmann, expressing steadfast support for Israel, emphasized that the show would remain unaffected. He noted that participating nations have until mid-December to reconsider.
Spain, a key financial supporter, alongside record-winning Ireland, magnifies the financial implications of their pullout. Despite the potential setback, Weissmann assured ORF radio that contingency plans by the European Broadcasting Union mitigate any financial strain, ensuring Vienna's contest won't suffer.
