The Uttarakhand High Court convened to address a Public Interest Litigation concerning recurring forest fires in the state. The court heard from the amicus curiae about longstanding issues with implementation of protective measures.
Environmental advocate Professor Ajay Rawat was slated to appear via video conferencing to advise on strategies for preventing forest fires but experienced network difficulties, prompting a request to reschedule for December 10.
The court agreed, setting the next hearing date, as frustrations grew over the government's apparent neglect in executing court-ordered fire prevention actions since 2021, leaving forests vulnerable.
