A tigress from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra has been captured and translocated to the Sahyadri Reserve as part of state-driven breeding and conservation efforts. Officials confirmed the successful operation by a dedicated team ensuring the big cat's safe relocation.
This tigress, identified as T7_f_S2_f, is from the genetic lineage sought to enhance the diversity of the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (STR) population. Its relocation is designed to establish a robust genetic pool, thus aiding long-term survival and mitigating inbreeding issues.
After being tranquillised, the tigress underwent a comprehensive health evaluation and was fitted with a radio collar for monitoring. Upon her arrival at STR, she will be introduced into a controlled environment, a 'soft release', to ensure adaptation and integration into her new surroundings.
