In the past decade, India has significantly expanded its renewable energy capacity, adding 2,361 megawatts of biomass and 228 MW of waste-to-energy, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.

Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, revealed that 2.88 lakh biogas plants have been established nationwide in response to a Lok Sabha query.

Despite substantial progress under the National Bioenergy Programme, certain states like Arunachal Pradesh and Union Territories have yet to establish any biomass or waste-to-energy projects, indicating regional disparities in bioenergy adoption.
