NASA Names International Crew for Pioneering Artemis III Mission
NASA has named a team of three U.S. astronauts and one Italian astronaut to lead the Artemis III mission. This mission will test docking capabilities in Earth's orbit with SpaceX and Blue Origin landers. Scheduled for next year, it marks another step towards NASA's first moon landing since 1972.
NASA has announced the selection of a diverse crew for the upcoming Artemis III mission, which will involve a critical spacecraft docking demonstration in Earth's orbit. The team, comprising three U.S. astronauts—Andre Douglas, Frank Rubio, and Randy Bresnik—and Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano, will embark on this mission late next year to test docking capabilities with landers from SpaceX and Blue Origin.
Announced in a ceremony led by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, the Artemis III mission represents a significant milestone in NASA's plans for lunar exploration. Following the successful crewed round trip to the moon earlier this year, Artemis III aims to bridge the gap to NASA's first moon landing since 1972, scheduled for 2028 with Artemis IV.
This mission will be pivotal in advancing international collaboration and showcasing cutting-edge space technologies, as the agency seeks to establish a sustainable human presence on the moon and beyond.
