South Africa skipper Aiden Markram expressed his relief on Saturday after his team broke their mental blockade against the Netherlands, a side that has stunned them twice in major ICC tournaments.
The Dutch shocked South Africa in last year's ODI World Cup and previously in the 2022 World Cup in Australia. However, on Saturday, David Miller's brilliant knock of 59 not out off 51 balls saved the day as South Africa navigated anxiety-inducing moments to clinch a four-wicket win over the Dutch in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
'We knew they were always going to be up for a scrap. It's ultimately a game of cricket. History was not on our side, but overcoming this mental blockade is a win for the team's spirit,' Markram said at the post-match presentation. This victory marks South Africa's second consecutive win in the tournament, following their six-wicket triumph over Sri Lanka.
