Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Olympic medalist Sarabjot Singh for his outstanding performance alongside Manu Bhaker, which earned them a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event in Paris.
During a phone call with Singh, Modi lauded the pair's exceptional teamwork and expressed his pride in their achievement. The Prime Minister inquired about the duo's rapport, to which Sarabjot responded by emphasizing their years of collaborative practice since 2019. 'You have made India proud,' Modi said, extending his wishes to Bhaker as well.
The duo outperformed South Korea's Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin with a score of 16-10 in the bronze medal play-off match, contributing to India's medal tally at the Summer Games. Manu Bhaker made history beyond the team event by becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals at a single Olympics, following her bronze in the women's individual 10m air pistol event.
This achievement makes her the first Indian athlete to secure dual medals post-independence, joining the ranks of Norman Pritchard from the 1900 Olympics. Bhaker joins other Indian athletes with multiple Olympic medals, including PV Sindhu and Sushil Kumar.
