Evy Leibfarth Clinches Bronze in Canoe Slalom, Overcomes Previous Setback
Evy Leibfarth secured a bronze medal in the women's canoe slalom final at the Olympics. Despite a previous disappointment in kayak slalom, Leibfarth, coached by her father, managed to overcome the challenging course. Her father, Lee Leibfarth, believes that earlier setbacks motivated her to perform outstandingly in the final.
Evy Leibfarth secured third place in the women's canoe slalom final, clinching an Olympic bronze medal with just one competitor standing between her and the podium. Gabriela Satkova of the Czech Republic, the fastest finisher in the semifinals, could have pushed Leibfarth out of the top three, but she faltered mid-course.
The wait was agonizing for Leibfarth and her father-coach, Lee Leibfarth. 'To be honest, it was a little bit of disbelief,' he said. 'It took me a second, like, OK, this is really happening.' Evy, who previously finished 12th in kayak slalom and 18th in canoe slalom, expressed how special it was to achieve this milestone with her father by her side.
Just days before, Leibfarth had experienced disappointment after failing to qualify for the kayak slalom final. Her father believes this setback fueled her determination in the canoe event. 'That may have actually motivated her a little bit,' he said. Despite barely qualifying for the final, Leibfarth remained calm and delivered a performance that left her smiling through much of her race. She now looks forward to competing in kayak cross on August 5.
