In a momentous victory, India's women's kabaddi team reaffirmed its supremacy by clinching the 6th Asian Women's Kabaddi Championship title in Tehran. Overpowering host nation Iran with a 32-25 win, the team celebrated its successful defense of the coveted title on Saturday.
The tournament made a grand return after an eight-year hiatus, last held in Iran in 2017. Fresh from this achievement, the team was warmly welcomed and felicitated on Tuesday by India's Sports Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya. In recognition of their exceptional feat, the team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 67,50,000, reflecting India's fifth triumph in the championship.
Raider and captain Sonali Shingate hailed the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs for its unwavering support, which she credits as instrumental to their success. The team's performance is a testament to India's growing prominence in international kabaddi, a sentiment echoed by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India's officials, who are gearing up for the upcoming Women's Kabaddi World Cup in Bihar.
