Mike Hesson Appointed as Pakistan's Limited-Overs Coach
Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson will helm Pakistan's limited-overs cricket team starting May 26, announced the Pakistan Cricket Board. Hesson, who led New Zealand to the 2015 World Cup final, is known for his international coaching expertise. He takes over from interim coach Aqib Javed.
Mike Hesson, the former New Zealand cricket coach, has been appointed to lead Pakistan's limited-overs teams starting May 26, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Hesson previously guided New Zealand to the 2015 World Cup finals and has coached Kenya and the IPL's Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The 50-year-old is currently the head coach of Pakistan Super League's champions Islamabad United. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised Hesson's extensive international experience and ability to develop competitive teams, expressing anticipation for his leadership in Pakistan's white-ball cricket journey.
Hesson succeeds Aqib Javed, who temporarily held the coaching position since November after Gary Kirsten's six-month tenure ended. Javed, who also served as interim red-ball coach, will now focus on his new role as director of high performance. The PCB has not yet identified a full-time test coach. Pakistan is set to host Bangladesh for five T20 Internationals later this month.
