Bangladesh Set to Replace Pakistan in Asia Cup Hockey Tournament

Bangladesh is poised to replace Pakistan in the men's Asia Cup hockey tournament scheduled in Bihar, India, due to Pakistan's security concerns. Despite India's willingness to provide visas, the Pakistan Hockey Federation has hesitated. The final decision is expected within 48 hours.

In an unexpected turn of events, Bangladesh is anticipated to substitute Pakistan in the upcoming men's Asia Cup hockey tournament in Rajgir, Bihar, set to commence on August 29. This development follows Pakistan's reluctance to confirm participation, citing security concerns.

The Indian government demonstrated openness by agreeing to grant visas to the Pakistani players. However, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has expressed reservations about traveling to India due to recent military tensions, thus casting doubt on their involvement.

The organizers have proactively reached out to Bangladesh as a potential replacement. A Hockey India official stated that the situation should be clearer in the next 48 hours, as neither Pakistan nor Bangladesh has confirmed participation yet. The Asia Cup serves as a qualifying event for the 2026 World Cup, featuring teams from India, China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Oman, and Chinese Taipei.
