Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has been bestowed with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who hailed him as the 'epitome' of perseverance and national pride.

The ceremony, held in New Delhi and attended by Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and high-ranking officials, recognized Chopra's exceptional contributions both in sports and to the nation. Chopra's historic achievements include India's first Olympic gold in men's javelin at Tokyo 2020 and subsequent victories in global and regional athletic events.

Born in Khandra village, Haryana, Chopra joined the Indian Army in 2016 and advanced through its ranks. His accolades include numerous awards, notably the Padma Shri and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, underscoring his dedication and inspirational role in sports and military service.
