In a thrilling encounter at Visakhapatnam, Rohit Sharma showcased his batting prowess once again, crafting his 61st half-century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) during the third match of the India-South Africa series. Sharma and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone for India's chase with a formidable 155-run partnership for the first wicket.
With this century stand, Sharma rose to second place on the all-time ODI charts for century opening partnerships, with 35, trailing only cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's 40. The duo's performance marked India's second-highest opening stand against South Africa in ODIs, following a 193-run partnership set by Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly in 2001.
Rohit's impressive innings was marked by his crossing 20,000 international runs, featuring seven fours and three sixes before his dismissal by Keshav Maharaj. Meanwhile, Jaswal went on to score his maiden ODI hundred. Earlier in the day, South Africa posted 270, with standout performances from Quinton de Kock, who scored 106, and significant contributions from Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke. Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav played crucial roles in dismantling South Africa's lineup.
