Congo Navigates Challenges in World Cup Preparation
The Democratic Republic of Congo concluded a challenging World Cup warm-up with a 2-1 loss to Chile. The match, relocated to Orleans due to health concerns tied to the Ebola outbreak, was played without fans. Congo is set to travel to Houston for their Group K matches.
The Democratic Republic of Congo's national soccer team wrapped up its World Cup warm-up campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Chile. Held behind closed doors in Orleans, this game was initially scheduled for Cadiz but relocated due to public health concerns linked to an Ebola outbreak in Congo.
Following a scoreless first half, Chilean player Dario Osorio broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, with Matias Sepulveda adding another goal just before the end. Joris Kayembe secured a consolation goal for Congo in the 88th minute. Meanwhile, U.S. officials advised that players and staff must be symptom-free and outside Congo for 21 days prior to entering the U.S. for the World Cup.
As Congo prepares for the tournament, they are scheduled to travel to their base in Houston and will face Portugal in their opening match. Their Group K fixtures also include games against Colombia in Guadalajara and Uzbekistan in Atlanta.
