Belgium's formidable goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has suggested he may hang up his international boots following the FIFA World Cup in 2026. The veteran player, who celebrated his first cap in 2011, will lace up for Belgium's tournament opener against Egypt in Seattle on June 16.

Addressing the media from Belgium's team base, the 34-year-old revealed lingering doubts about his future in international football. 'I don't know if we should be talking about the future right now, but the chances are greater that I won't continue after this tournament than that I will,' Courtois shared. Citing recurring injuries and a desire to preserve his physical health, Courtois indicated that the World Cup could signal his international farewell, adding, 'My family is here because this could be my last tournament.'

Although contemplating life post-football, Courtois remains optimistic about his current form. 'Yes, I'm very hungry, just like the rest of the group. I feel very good, and I'm looking forward to it,' the keeper stated. Despite a quadriceps injury this spring, Courtois is eager to maintain his highest level of performance, as Belgium prepares for matches against Iran and New Zealand.
