U.S. Government Embraces AI with Meta's Llama
The U.S. government plans to integrate Meta Platforms' AI system, Llama, into federal operations. The General Services Administration will add Llama to their list of approved tools, allowing government agencies to use it for various tasks while ensuring security standards are met.
The U.S. government is set to adopt Meta Platforms' artificial intelligence tool, Llama, into its operations, according to a senior administration official. This marks a significant move by the Trump administration to leverage commercial AI technologies for federal use.
Josh Gruenbaum, the General Services Administration's procurement head, stated that Llama will be included in the list of approved AI tools available for federal agencies. This allows agencies to utilize Llama, a free tool, with the assurance of compliance with government security and legal standards.
Llama is a versatile large language model capable of processing diverse data types. The GSA has recently authorized other AI tools from Meta's rivals, including Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic, and Open AI. These products will be sold at discounts while adhering to government security protocols. The integration will enhance tasks like contract review and IT problem-solving, according to Gruenbaum.
