Iraq Bans Roblox: A Move for Child Safety
Iraq has prohibited the U.S.-based videogame platform Roblox to protect children from potential exploitation and cyber-extortion. The government cited concerns about user interactions that may violate social values. Roblox aims to collaborate with authorities to restore service. Other Middle Eastern countries, including Turkey, have enacted similar bans.
Iraq has joined a growing list of nations cracking down on virtual gaming platforms, banning the U.S.-based Roblox over child safety concerns.
The decision, announced late Sunday, stems from fears of the platform facilitating communication that could risk exploitation or cyber-extortion of minors. Authorities argue the content contradicts social values and traditions.
While Roblox Corp insists on their commitment to user safety and contest claims from Iraqi officials, Iraq's communication ministry maintains this ban follows rigorous study and monitoring, aligning with actions by neighbors like Turkey.
