Taiwan Unveils Robot Patrol Dogs Amid South China Sea Tensions
Taiwan showcased advanced robot patrol dogs, developed by its military's top weapons institute, for potential deployment on its islands in the disputed South China Sea. This move is part of Taiwan's efforts to modernize its defense capabilities amidst rising Chinese activities in the region.
On Tuesday, Taiwan's military unveiled three models of robot patrol dogs that may play a crucial role in securing Taiwan's islands in the disputed South China Sea. These advanced robots, developed by Taiwan's top weapons institute, highlight the country's focus on modernizing defense against potential Chinese threats.
The demonstration, held by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, featured different versions of the robot dogs equipped with reconnaissance, surveillance, and firepower capabilities. The firepower version notably includes a weapon mounted on its back, underscoring Taiwan's determination to deter Chinese aggression.
According to Jen Kuo-kuang, deputy head of the institute's missile and rocket systems research division, there is a pressing need for such technologies on Taiwan's strategic islands, the Spratlys and Pratas. These developments come amid Taiwan's concerns over increased Chinese coast guard patrols and drone activities near these strategic areas.
