Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that there is no intention to revisit the 'Shakti' scheme, which provides free bus travel for all women in the state, following a wave of criticism directed at Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for suggesting a potential review.
Facing backlash from opposition parties and media, Shivakumar clarified that his comments were distorted, maintaining that the five guarantee schemes, including Shakti, will remain in place. He noted conversations with well-off commuters who have expressed willingness to pay, but reaffirmed the government's commitment to the scheme.
Opposition leaders criticized the government, labeling it as a 'laughing stock' and questioning its financial sustainability. Despite these challenges, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar insist the schemes will persist throughout the government's term and beyond.
