IndiGo Airlines cancelled over 1,000 flights on Friday, a fallout from struggles to adjust to new flight duty norms. The chaos has disrupted thousands of passengers nationwide, with social media abuzz as airfares spiked amid the travel disruptions.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) intervened, granting temporary relief from the Flight Duty Time Limitations, specifically for IndiGo's A320 fleet, to aid in operational stabilization. This decision comes as a strategic measure to address four days of ongoing disruptions that left passengers stranded and airports in disarray.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu assured the public that a plan is in place to restore normalcy within three days. As part of the recovery operations, IndiGo's CEO, Pieter Elbers, issued an apology, detailing the logistic reboot expected to decrease cancellations. The DGCA continues to monitor the situation closely, urging pilot cooperation to manage the increased travel demand.
