India's Aluminium Demand Set to Surge Amid Infrastructure Push: NALCO
India's aluminium demand is projected to rise significantly due to ongoing government investment in infrastructure and power sector expansion, according to NALCO. The company is increasing alumina production and implementing cost-efficiency measures. Future plans include new smelting facilities and addressing long-term power cost challenges.

In light of India's infrastructure boom, aluminium demand is poised for substantial growth, as highlighted by National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO). Speaking to ANI, Chairman and Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh emphasized the pivotal role of government expenditure in driving this demand, particularly through infrastructure and power sector expansion initiatives.
Singh disclosed that NALCO is enhancing its alumina production targets and efficiency measures to offset declining prices, with a projected output of 23 lakh tonnes by the fiscal year 2026. Furthermore, the company is laying out a roadmap for significant expansion, which includes a 0.5 million tonne aluminium smelter equipped with a 1,080 megawatt power plant.
Despite challenges such as power costs and sustainability, NALCO is committed to maintaining its position in the market. Singh noted the importance of policy support for energy transitions and highlighted ongoing efforts to mitigate costs through improved efficiency. The company's plans for capital investments and expansion in bauxite mining underpin its growth strategy amidst rising domestic demand.
