BHP workers at Port Hedland in Western Australia have voted in favor of a strike, posing a threat to iron ore shipments from this crucial export hub, said union officials on Thursday.

The Electrical Trades Union (ETU) revealed that 100% of its members voted for work stoppages, which could begin imminently, as negotiations over labor agreements have stalled.

The workers are demanding improved pay and parity in conditions, citing a lack of progress in talks with BHP, the world's largest listed miner. Similar sentiment was expressed by the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU), with both unions making plans for industrial action.
