Binance has announced a humanitarian contribution of $250,000 to support emergency efforts aimed at containing the ongoing Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.
The funding will be shared equally between the Uganda Red Cross Society and Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières – MSF), two organizations actively working on the frontlines of the outbreak. The support is intended to strengthen healthcare services, disease prevention efforts and emergency response operations in affected and high-risk communities.
Funding to Support Critical Frontline Operations
The contribution will help finance a range of urgent interventions, including medical treatment and care, public awareness campaigns, contact tracing activities and outbreak containment measures.
Additional resources will be directed toward providing sanitation supplies and personal protective equipment for healthcare workers and emergency responders operating in challenging conditions.
The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or treatment. Health authorities and humanitarian organizations are working to prevent further transmission as cases spread across multiple regions and across international borders.
Humanitarian Agencies Welcome Support
Binance Co-CEO Richard Teng said the company wants to stand alongside organizations delivering life-saving assistance during a critical period for affected communities.
He noted that frontline responders are working under difficult circumstances and require strong support to protect vulnerable populations and strengthen local healthcare systems.
Uganda Red Cross Society Secretary General Robert Kwesiga described partnerships as essential during public health emergencies. He said the funding would help accelerate response efforts, expand outreach to at-risk communities and strengthen frontline services needed to contain the outbreak.
MSF Emergency Programme Manager Trish Newport also warned that the speed of transmission and rising number of cases remain a serious concern. She highlighted the additional challenges faced by communities in eastern DRC, where healthcare access is already limited and insecurity continues to affect daily life.
Expanding Corporate Support for Communities
The initiative forms part of Binance's broader engagement across Africa, where the company has supported programmes focused on education, digital skills development, financial inclusion and community empowerment.
Through this latest intervention, Binance is extending its involvement into humanitarian and public health response efforts by partnering with organizations that have extensive experience operating in emergency situations.
The company also encouraged businesses operating across Africa to play a more active role in supporting communities during times of crisis. Binance said corporate participation should extend beyond economic activity and include meaningful contributions to community wellbeing and resilience.
As health agencies continue efforts to contain the outbreak, additional support from governments, humanitarian organizations and private-sector partners is expected to remain crucial in limiting the spread of the disease and protecting affected populations.
