On Monday, unidentified militants detonated explosives at a government girls' school in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as confirmed by officials. The explosion caused significant structural damage but resulted in no loss of life.
The incident occurred in the North Waziristan tribal district, adjacent to Afghanistan. Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai stated that seven rooms of the school, which had an enrollment of 255 girls, were razed in the blast. He assured that the school would be made functional soon and condemned the act as an attempt to deter education in tribal areas.
The Taliban and its affiliates oppose female education, deeming it un-Islamic. In a similar attack in May, militants also targeted a private girls' school in North Waziristan's Tehsil Shewa.
