Digital Transformation in Tripura Schools: Tracking Teachers' Attendance

The Tripura government has required all government school teachers to share their locations upon reaching school to enhance accountability and transparency in attendance reporting. Implemented since June, this system aims to improve school performance and is supported by e-attendance and surprise inspections by district committees.

In a bid to enhance transparency and accountability, the Tripura government has rolled out a new digital initiative for its school teachers. As of June, approximately 25,000 teachers across 4,912 schools are required to share their location upon arrival to their respective institutions, complementing their traditional e-attendance submissions.

Unakoti district's education officer, Prasant Killikdar, elaborated on the process, explaining that teachers must activate the 'share location' feature within school premises to record their presence. This innovation allows school management and government officials to monitor attendance in real-time through a centralized digital platform.

The education department has bolstered its oversight with inter-district committees conducting unannounced school visits. These efforts aim not only to ensure teachers' presence but also to enhance educational outcomes across the state, with noticeable improvements reported in schools' performances this year compared to the previous year.
