Delhi Schools Face New Fee Regulation Bill in 2025

The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, mandates that all private schools in Delhi must seek government permission before raising fees. Previously applicable only to schools on government land, the regulation aims to increase accountability and prevent arbitrary fee hikes.

The Delhi government has introduced a landmark bill requiring all private schools in the capital to get prior approval before increasing their fees, Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Thursday. The move expands regulations that previously applied to only 350 schools located on government-allocated land.

The newly proposed legislation, known as the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, aims to end arbitrary fee hikes and boost accountability in the education sector. Sood emphasized that this marks a promise to parents, ensuring fee structures are no longer manipulated.

Opposition party AAP's state president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, criticized the bill, claiming it serves to divert attention and protect certain private schools from court scrutiny. The measure follows attempts by institutions to bypass previous government orders to maintain controlled fee increases.
