In West Bengal, tensions flared as job aspirants protested against the state School Service Commission's recruitment processes. Two separate groups rallied on Monday, alleging irregularities in mark allocations and delays in teacher appointments, highlighting deep-rooted issues in the state's educational sector.
Thousands of SSC aspirants for classes 11 and 12 marched from Sealdah to Esplanade in central Kolkata, clashing with police who tried to reroute them. Protesters demanded the withdrawal of 10 extra marks for former teachers and insisted on public transparency regarding OMR sheets, while calling for the creation of additional teaching positions.
Simultaneously, aspirants from the 2016 Upper Primary batch, whose appointments remain pending despite court orders, marched towards the state education department's headquarters. They decried delayed processes and accused the authorities of violating Supreme Court directives.
