Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to introduce a Life Skills Curriculum for Sikkim's students, starting from the next academic year.
The curriculum aims to equip students with critical life-saving skills such as CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and disaster preparedness, alongside vital soft skills like communication and teamwork. The Education, Health Departments, and SDRF have been directed to expedite the finalization of the curriculum and training modules.
Tamang emphasized the alignment with the principles of 'Health First, Life Foremost, and Education Forward'. This initiative also seeks to address the shortage of medical professionals by mandating a three-year service at Primary Health Centres for doctors pursuing postgraduate studies.
