In a significant development, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that the state’s social welfare schemes have garnered praise from UNICEF.
Speaking on X, Banerjee highlighted the 'Kanyashree' and 'Rupashree' schemes as key programs acknowledged by top UNICEF officials at the Impact East 2024 conclave.
'Kanyashree' aims to enhance the status and well-being of teenage girls by incentivizing their schooling and delaying marriages until they are 18, while 'Rupashree' provides financial grants to economically disadvantaged families for their daughters' marriages.
