UNESCO took a significant step in the preservation of cultural diversity by inscribing several traditional arts and crafts onto its List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. The elements, including the Boreendo, an ancient musical instrument from Pakistan, highlight the necessity to protect fading traditions worldwide.

The session, held at the historic Red Fort, marks the first time India has hosted such an event. Over 67 nominations submitted by nearly 80 countries are under review for potential inscription, aiming to preserve a wide array of cultural practices.

Other notable inclusions are the Mwazindika spiritual dance from Kenya and the craft of Dong Ho folk woodblock printings from Vietnam. This initiative underscores UNESCO's commitment to safeguarding the heritage that defines cultural identities across the globe.
