VA Tech Wabag, a water technology firm, has won a Rs 800 crore project funded by the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Bangladesh.

The Chennai-based company will design, build and operate a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 200 million litre per day(MLD) in Dhaka.

This project has the potential to be expanded to 600 MLD in the future, the company said in a statement.

This plant will operate based on activated sludge treatment process where it uses green fuel (Biogas) generated during the waste water treatment process producing green energy required for running the plant, it said.

This process also meets environmental norms and the production of renewable energy contributes to the cause of combating global climate change, it said.

The project was won against international competition based on technological superiority and competitiveness, company's regional business head (South Asia) Arvind Dullu said.
