IMA Urges PM Modi to Address Trainee Doctor's Tragic Death

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) National President, Dr. Asokan, stated on Saturday that the time is ideal for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The IMA announced they will write to the Prime Minister, emphasizing the need for his intervention.

Dr. Asokan mentioned the IMA's meeting with the Health Minister and stressed that the government's response is crucial. 'We are asking for a fundamental right, the right to life,' he added. Doctors nationwide are protesting the incident, highlighting the unity within the medical profession against this injustice.

Protests have erupted across various sectors, from private clinics to government hospitals. 'The overwhelming response from all corners of the country shows doctors' solidarity,' Dr. Asokan said. The IMA is pushing for women's safety, expecting a significant gesture from the government. Nationwide strikes, including a protest march at AIIMS Delhi, emphasize the demand for safety and a Central Protection Act.
