TMC Criticizes BJP for Politicizing Doctor's Tragic Death

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday for politicizing the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, asserting that the public's pain is being converted into a political slogan. During a press conference, Ghosh emphasized the inappropriateness of spreading fake news.

The brutal case has ignited widespread outrage and protests, resulting in the Supreme Court taking suo motu cognisance. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud's bench will hear the case on August 20. The incident has triggered protests in cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Kolkata, with demands for justice and punishment for the perpetrators.

Notable protests were held by Calcutta High Court advocates, doctors from Maulana Azad Medical College, and PGIMER doctors in Chandigarh. Football enthusiasts also protested in Kolkata, causing the cancellation of a Durand Cup match. The postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead in RG Kar Medical College on August 9.

On August 14, the protest site at RG Kar Medical College was vandalized, necessitating police intervention. In response, Kolkata police enforced Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, around the hospital from August 18 to 24 to maintain law and order.
