Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has declared that the state will complete the implementation of new criminal laws within the next six months. This decision follows a strategic review meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the North Block, focusing on the execution of the newly introduced legal provisions.
Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra's progress, mentioning that 27 vans have been assigned to boost forensic infrastructure for long-pending cases. The Chief Minister also noted that while online systems for courts have been established, the new laws necessitate dedicated cubicles in courts and forensic labs, a task that is underway.
The reforms are part of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. Introduced with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, these changes aim to replace outdated colonial laws and focus on justice. They promise to enhance the legal framework with emphasis on tackling cybercrime and organized crime in modern society.
