Congress workers and Youth Congress members staged a protest on Friday in Assam's Nagaon district, condemning the alleged attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain. The incident reportedly occurred in the Rupahihat area on Thursday, leading to demands for decisive government action against the attackers.

Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Mrinal Hazarika criticized the BJP government, stating that it failed to ensure the safety of an MP, raising concerns about public safety. Meanwhile, Congress legislators staged a protest at the Assam Legislative Assembly, attempting to discuss the issue during the ongoing Budget session. However, Speaker Biswajit Daimary rejected their adjournment motion and briefly adjourned the assembly.

Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia expressed alarm over the incident. He highlighted prior warnings to local police, yet the attack occurred in broad daylight. Saikia emphasized the need for better security for all citizens, describing the incident as a grave situation under the Himanta Biswa Sarma government. The attack took place while Hussain was en route to a meeting in Rupahihat, where he was allegedly confronted by miscreants and saved by his personal security officers, one of whom fired shots in the air.
