In a significant crackdown, Manipur Police have arrested 15 insurgent group cadres during operations on March 8 and 9, ensuring that the state's tense atmosphere remains in check. According to an official statement, the arrests were part of efforts to maintain control over vulnerable areas across hill and valley districts.
Five NRFM cadres were detained at Gandhi Avenue, Imphal West, with items including a two-wheeler and mobile phones seized. Meanwhile, an NRFM member was arrested in Imphal East, and evidence of extortion found. Other arrests were made involving PREPAK, KCP, and UPPK members, all linked to extortion activities targeting the public and officials.
Manipur authorities emphasize the strict security measures along NH-2 for safe vehicle passage, and appeal for the return of stolen weapons and to disregard unfounded rumors on social media. The President's rule was enforced in Manipur following earlier violence related to tribal community disputes over ST status demands.
