India is making significant strides towards reducing its dependency on imported fertilisers, with the import of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) reaching 44.19 lakh tonnes this fiscal, according to government data.
Compared to last year's 55.67 lakh tonnes, this illustrates a persistent demand but also highlights India's increasing domestic production capabilities.
Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel noted in the Rajya Sabha that the domestic production of urea and phosphatic & potassic (P&K) fertilisers has seen a notable rise over the last decade, driven by strategic policy changes to enhance local manufacturing.
