The Tamil Nadu government's decision to use a Tamil alphabet instead of the national Rupee symbol in its budget document has ignited a political controversy. AIADMK National Spokesperson Kovai Sathyan criticized Chief Minister MK Stalin, labeling him 'incompetent' and accusing him of nepotism within the DMK.
Sathyan alleged that Stalin's government prioritized family over public welfare, questioning the invite extended to Karnataka's leaders for a delimitation conference amidst unresolved interstate issues. The DMK, however, defended the symbol change, citing adherence to the Union government's emphasis on mother tongue promotion.
BJP's Tamil Nadu Chief, K Annamalai, also criticized the move, highlighting that the Rupee symbol was designed by a Tamilian and son of a former DMK MLA. A video released by CM Stalin showcased the new budget logo, substituting the national currency symbol with a Tamil letter.
