On Thursday, BJP leader Ravi Kishan raised concerns over the practice of conducting Namaz on public streets, urging both Hindus and Muslims to celebrate their festivals without inconveniencing the public. Kishan emphasized the need for communal harmony during celebrations and questioned the necessity of street Namaz, citing religious teachings.
In Sambhal, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vandana Mishra announced that Namaz should not be offered on streets, following a peace committee meeting discussing upcoming festivals such as Navaratri, Eid, and Mahanavami. Attendees agreed to avoid street Namaz as part of efforts to maintain public order during the celebrations.
This discussion follows a history of violence in Sambhal, including an incident last November resulting in four fatalities. The Special Investigation Team continues its probe, recently summoning Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rehman Barq for questioning.
