Tensions Rise: Iran's New Uranium Enrichment Facility at Isfahan Targeted
Iran revealed plans for a new uranium enrichment plant in Isfahan, but Israeli military strikes on its nuclear facilities have disrupted these plans. The IAEA's inspections have been halted due to the conflict, escalating nuclear tensions amid allegations of Iran breaching non-proliferation obligations.
The chief of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, pointed to Isfahan as the site of a new uranium enrichment plant in Iran, which was announced in retaliation against diplomatic actions taken by other nations.
Before Israel's military operations targeting Iranian nuclear sites, Iran declared its intent to equip a new enrichment facility, although specific location details were withheld. This move was in response to a resolution from the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors, which accused Tehran of breaching non-proliferation duties.
The new plant would have expanded Iran's enrichment capabilities, yet Israeli attacks rendered one facility inoperative and another without power, according to IAEA reports. This disruption postponed official inspections and increased anxiety over Iran's nuclear activities.
