The monsoon season has made an early entrance in India, as torrential rains swept across various regions, leading to significant concerns over rising water levels. Authorities are on high alert, with the Ganga River in Uttarakhand's Rishikesh nearing its warning mark, putting State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams into action.
As the rains persist, local police and rescue teams are issued advisories to ensure public safety, closely patrolling sensitive areas like Muni Ki Reti and Laxman Jhula. Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for districts in Himachal Pradesh, predicting heavy rainfall to continue.
In Jammu and Kashmir, incessant rains have forced the opening of Baglihar Dam gates in Ramban to manage the rising Chenab River levels. The NHPC, together with local administrations, has published alerts, urging communities in low-lying areas to take precautions. River rafting has been suspended as a safety measure, with patrols stepped up across the region.
