The Rouse Avenue Court has denied Christian Michel James's request for release in the high-profile VVIP chopper deal case. Special Judge Sanjay Jindal rejected the plea, emphasizing the existence of unresolved significant legal issues, including allegations that could warrant life imprisonment.
The court outlined that previous discussions and conclusions by higher courts preclude revisiting the accused's entitlement under Section 436A of the CrPC. Judge Jindal noted that the charges, including those under IPC Section 467, remain pending resolution at the trial stage and could potentially lead to life sentences.
James, a British national, remains detained, unable to fulfill bail bond conditions and citing challenges related to visa and passport issues. Legal representatives argued against invoking certain charges due to international extradition terms, while agencies maintain other ongoing legal processes justify continued custody.
