Efforts are underway to restore the external power supply at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine. According to the Russian-installed management, power is expected to return by Saturday.
The plant has been without electricity since late September, leading to the initiation of repair work on October 18. Although the plant is not generating electricity, it requires power to maintain safety and prevent reactor fuel overheating.
The Zaporizhzhia plant, Europe's largest with six reactors, was seized by Russian forces shortly after the Ukraine conflict erupted in 2022.
