Currently, the FTSE 100 is up 0.1%, whereas the FTSE 250 remains flat. Contributing to the upward movement, the Oil & Gas sector rose by 0.7%, driven by gains in oil prices amid uncertainties surrounding the Russia-Ukraine peace talks. This development comes ahead of an OPEC+ meeting on Sunday.
Significant stock movements include a 0.9% rise in the chemicals sector, with Johnson Matthey shares increasing 1.8% after an upgrade by J.P. Morgan. In the meantime, precious metal miners thrive as gold prices soar, while the aerospace and defense sector remains sluggish. Burberry shares fell by 2.3% following a downgrade. On the other hand, Mitchells & Butlers saw a notable 11.5% rise after posting profits above expectations.
